What it is
Psoriasis is a long-term immune-related skin condition. On the scalp it causes raised, well-defined patches covered with thick, silvery-white scale. It is not contagious.
Common signs
thick scale on clearly defined patches · scale that can extend past the hairline, forehead or behind the ears · itching, dryness and irritation.
What helps
Medicated shampoos and scale softeners with OTC ingredients such as salicylic acid or coal tar can help soften and remove scale. Salicylic acid is a keratolytic: it helps lift scale so other care can reach the scalp. Be gentle — avoid scratching or picking at scale.
When to see a dermatologist
psoriasis often needs a care plan from a dermatologist, especially if it covers a large area, is painful, or doesn't improve. If condition covers a large area of the body, consult your doctor before using this product.
